A Walk in London

By Salvatore Rubbino (WalkerBooks)

This retro style introduction to famous cities like New York, Paris and London gets huge points for its artistic style.  Follow a mother and her daughter as they take a tour of London, hopping on a red bus, stopping over at the main sightseeing attractions and learning little bits of interesting info on them. Like the fact that every winter since 1947 Norway has sent Londoners a huge Christmas tree which always stands in Trafalgar square. While some children may find the illustrations less interesting than a book full of photographs, I love the ambience created.  It speaks to a more romantic notion of travel, and the information offers stories of a city rather than a bunch of cold facts.
