By Lydia Monks (Egmont)
Go, Go Gorilla! is a lovely lyrical tale about a new friend who arrives to stay with a little boy and his family. The new friend is a large, hairy gorilla. Cue parents nervous expressions. The illustrations are bright and expressive with lots of fun details like the horrified look on granny’s portrait on the wall when the gorilla arrives.
At first gorilla loves his visit but when he is introduced to snow and skiing for the first time – things don’t go quite so smoothly.
Similar to the style of Julia Donaldson – Lydia Monks has collaborated with her on numerous books including What the Ladybird Heard and Sharing A Shell. Children will love the receptive chorus “Ooo, Ooo, Ooo! I think he liked it.”
Even better is the moment when:
“Ooo, Ooo, Ooo! he cried. He didn’t like it.
Then the happy moment when the “Ooo, ooo, ooo’s turned into Hoo, hoo, hoos! and Ha, ha, hahs!”
An easy-to-read bedtime story that will be asked for over and over.
