RMB Latitudes X The Book Tree 2026

Where Stories Grow 🍃
The Book Tree held a creative space at the RMB Latitudes Art Fair at Shepstone Gardens in Johannesburg from 22- 24 May 2026.

A central element of RMB Latitudes Art Fair is the focus on children’s experience of art.  This year the Book Tree created a space where children could read a book donated by Book Dash, pick up a pen or pencil crayon and express themselves. It became a refuge and a true oasis in the busyness of the fair. We shared a space with Imbali Visual Literacy Project and Emily Van Heesch-Smith’s gorgeous flower works. Our Makers corner was a magical space where grown ups and kids could be creative.

We shared some wonderful moments with children as they laughed and relaxed, using the space to just be themselves for a while.

Children and parents also joined an interactive guided journey through the fair by playing a game with Shade Community, that linked to various exhibition spaces.  Together, these creative encounters celebrated storytelling, ecological awareness, shared imagination, and the joy of making alongside others.

What is Latitudes Art Fair?

Latitudes Art Fair is known for the vibrant and creative use of space, a diverse and comprehensive range of artists and galleries and a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Expect a thought provoking exchange of art and ideas. It’s also beautiful, with exhibition spaces set within the historic terraced gardens and architecture of Shepstone Gardens, one of Joburg’s most loved event destinations.

This is not your conventional art fair format. Carefully designed indoor and outdoor exhibition spaces combine the intimacy of a curated show with the professional standards and museum-grade presentation expected of major international fairs. Find out more here.
