Kids’ Market Day

Now you have an answer to that eternal question: “Mom, what can I do?”   “Make something and sell it!” is the answer. I don’t know about your kids, but mine absolutely love the idea of making things that they can sell and it’s always lovely to support their initiatives.  Kids’ Market Day is jam-packed with wonderful creative ideas of crafts, yummy treats and decorative objects your children can make, with varying scales of difficulty. Sam Scarborough runs her own children’s interior design company, Kids Décor ( and she has written three books on the subject. She has been involved in Kids’ market days in Cape Town for a few years and decided to put all the lovely ideas into one book. Think herb pots, toffee apples, sweetie jewelry, milkshakes, lucky packets, button bracelets and more.

There are wonderful ideas for school markets and even selling lemonade from the roadside (with parental supervision) will be given some added inspiration. My eldest daughter made play dough to sell for a Christmas stall last year – I love the creative way Sam’s packaged hers.

One lucky reader can win a copy of Kids’ Market Day. Join the Book Tree Club and send your name, address and child’s age to with the subject: Kid’s Market Day by 31 November 2014.
