A Perfectly Messed Up Story

By Patrick McDonnell (Little, Brown)

Age 3-6

Little Louie is so excited to tell his story but nothing goes as planned. From jelly to chunky peanut butter falling on his head, Louie keeps on, admirably trying to get his story across. Kids will learn that no matter what happens, persevering cheerfully is what’s important, not finishing perfectly. A brilliant lesson for little perfectionists I wish this book had been around when my daughter was little. It’s like a distillation of the Wabi Sabi principle of perfect imperfection!

McDonnell is the much loved author of the Mutt books and Me… Jane, based on Gorilla conservationist Jane Goodall’s childhood as well as the award wining Hug Time and The Gift of Nothing. He has all the wisdom and charm of Charlie Schulz’s Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes.
