The Great Balloon Hullaballoo

By Peter Bently and Mei Matsuoka (Anderson Press)

Age 2-6

Simon the Squirrel sets off with a shopping list from his mum – with strict instructions not to forget the cheese. So off trots Simon with Rodney Raccoon – everyone needs a side-kick – and he suddenly spies the moon – which of course everyone knows is made of cheese… Here follows a madcap adventure through the planets with the help of Old Uncle Somerset’s special balloon. Told in a wonderful rhyming text, Bently’s delicious and imaginative sense of humour shines through and the book forms part of The Great… book series.

Matsuoka’s illustrations are a delight as always.  Children adore his pictures of little aliens with panties (undies) on their heads. And of course children love the fact that Uranus is the planet where you can buy loo roll 🙂
